THE WINE SHOP WITHIN A PUB

Try before you buy, every night 6pm to 7.30pm

Unique? Crazy? Charitable? Fed up with dull wine lists and overpriced restaurant wines, bossman and wino Peter Austen has selected each of our wines from his vineyard trips across the globe. The wine shop is next to the bar, showing off this years (and some of last years) top 100, from over 2,500 wines tasted. From £6.50 to £99.50, all wines carry a corkage charge of just £5 for drinking in the bar or with your meal. No pressure, but you'll probably want to take a bottle or three away with you.

Alternatively, choose from twenty easy drinking wines available by the glass at the bar.

For cases, lists, orders and events please contact Peter on 01242 602359.

Wine all day, 7 days a week, 10am to 10.00pm (11.00pm Fridays and Saturdays).

WE'RE PHILANTHROPISTS!

Wine writer Penny Boothman hit on us for ‘Hidden Gem’ of the month in 'Wine & Spirit' Magazine (July 2007), kindly summing up:

"This is definitely still a country pub, a superb restaurant and a great place to stay the night. But now it’s an independent specialist wine shop as well. Pub restaurants often seem to get away with charging well over the odds for a good bottle of wine. But Austen's peculiarly philanthropic approach to on-trade pricing is fast winning him a fan club of regulars." (Wine & Spirit, July 2007)
